Dental Implants

At Blue Periodontics we offer several implant-related treatments to replace one or more missing teeth. We specialize in implant treatment because we believe that dental implants are the ideal solution for tooth loss.

What is Periodontal Disease

Periodontal disease is a disease that affects your gums. One of the reasons that you should brush your teeth daily is to prevent the buildup of bacteria. If enough bacteria are present on the teeth and gums, then it can infect the tissue surrounding the tooth, which causes red and swollen gums. This is the first stage of periodontal disease and is more commonly referred to as gingivitis.

Bacteria also create a residue on the teeth that is called plaque. Plaque can usually be removed by brushing, but if it goes untreated for a long enough time, it will harden and turn into a substance called tartar, or calculus. If this buildup of tartar moves below the gumline, then it will make your teeth harder to clean, and it can only be removed by a dental health professional.

Tooth Extractions

Periodontal disease is an infection that can spread to the innermost part of the tooth, resulting in significant pain and discomfort. We may recommend an extraction if the infection is so severe that the tooth is beyond repair. An extraction can stop the infection from spreading and endangering your surrounding teeth.

A frenectomy is a minor surgical procedure that involves the removal of the lingual or labial frenum. We may recommend a frenectomy to improve the mobility of your tongue and allow for proper speech (removal of lingual frenum). Removing the labial frenum may be necessary to close the gap between the two front teeth.

Gingival Contouring

Some people are born with uneven gums or an excessive amount of gum tissue. This can create aesthetic issues with your smile. We may recommend gingival contouring to improve the balance between your teeth and gums, giving you a more beautiful smile!

Gum Grafting

Gum grafting may be the best way to address severe gum recession. Gum recession can be the result of periodontal disease, aging, trauma, over-brushing, and misaligned teeth. Gum recession can result in substantial sensitivity issues, pain, and poor smile aesthetics.

A common method to ensure the proper regeneration of areas of the mouth prone to infection is Guided Tissue Regeneration (GTR). GTR can take place after pocket reduction surgery. In pocket reduction surgery, the gum line is folded back so that our periodontist can access the buildups of tartar that are buried beneath the gums.
